Ferry Terminal Floating Pontoon Edge Protection

Application

Floating pontoons at ferry terminals constantly move with tide and wave. The pontoon edges and ramp corners take constant impact from ferries docking. UHMWPE edge protection absorbs the impact without weighing the pontoon down.

Two Common Spec Patterns

1. Edge strip: 30 mm UHMWPE × 200 mm wide × pontoon length, mounted to the pontoon side rail
2. Corner pad: 50 mm UHMWPE shaped to the corner radius, bolted through with stainless hardware

Why Lightweight Matters

UHMWPE is ~⅛ the weight of steel for the same impact protection. On floating pontoons, every kilogram saved means more passenger payload or less freeboard loss. A 20 m pontoon can save 800 – 1200 kg by switching from steel to UHMWPE edge protection.
